Your Rights After a Collision
Understanding your legal rights and entitlements after a road traffic accident.
Your Legal Rights
Right to Choose Your Recovery Provider
You have the legal right to choose who recovers your vehicle after an accident. Your insurer cannot force you to use a specific recovery company. You can request Rapid Recovery Group, and your insurer must honor this choice.
Right to Free Recovery for Accidents
If you've been involved in an accident (not a mechanical breakdown), the recovery costs should be covered by insurance - either your comprehensive policy or the at-fault party's insurance. You should not have to pay upfront.
Right to Choose Your Repairer
You have the right to choose where your vehicle is repaired. Insurance companies cannot force you to use their approved repairers. You can select any reputable body shop, and we'll deliver your vehicle there.
Right to Secure Storage
Your vehicle must be stored in a secure, insurance-approved facility while claims are processed. Our storage facilities meet all industry standards and are fully insured.
Right to a Replacement Vehicle
If you have comprehensive insurance and the accident was not your fault, you're typically entitled to a replacement vehicle while yours is being repaired. Our claims partners can help arrange this.
Right to Refuse Unauthorized Recovery
You have the right to refuse recovery from unauthorized operators who show up uninvited at the scene. Only accept recovery from companies you've called or that your insurer has arranged.
Your Legal Obligations
After an accident, you must:
- Stop at the scene of the accident (if safe to do so)
- Exchange details with other parties involved
- Report the accident to your insurance company
- Report to police if required (e.g., injury, damage to property)
- Not admit fault at the scene
